TNA supports the automatic collection of data from other hardware
devices, via a text file. TNA is able to monitor directories
for files, and as soon as a file is placed in the directory then
it is automatically imported. This feature can also be used
to automatically import employees, rosters, job, etc.

Generic Import Format

In the Configuration module, go to the
Setup menu and select the Features option.

Select the Hardware settings
option.
- Select the Using Text-Import from hardware option.

In the Configuration module, go to the Setup menu, to the
Clocks option and select Clocks.

Select the Controller This PC
(Controller having the Controller Code of 0) which is the
computer on which the TNA system is running.

Click on Add Device.

Select the General settings
option.

In the Clock Code field put a simple name for this entry.
Something as trivial as Disk will do nicely. (If you
have multiple devices make sure each has a unique name.)

Enter any Description you like.

Select Text Import Generic from the Make & Model
list.

Click on the Connection
settings option.

Enter the name of the file to watch for in the File field.
Include the full path name. For example
c:\incoming\clock.txt
Note that
Wild Cards are acceptable in the name (in version 3.24 or later).
For example
c:\incoming\*.csv

Select the Format that matches the format of your incoming
text file.
- Select Ok to save this option.
The Communications module monitors the directory(s) set in the
Connection File box. If a file arrives in the directory, then it is automatically
imported.
After importing the file is automatically renamed, by adding the time
and date of the import to the file name and the file is moved into
a subdirectory called Done. (If the directory does not exist
it will be created for you.)
The communications module only checks the directory every minute or
so, so a file may be in the directory for about a minute before it
is imported.
If you are importing more than one type of file, you would need to
create a new device for each type unless you use the generic import
format and a wild card in
the file name e.g. if you are importing clockings from another hardware device and you want to import daily
shift rosters you need to create one device to import clockings and
another to import rosters.
